Is the Honey We Sell Authentic?

Honey is inherently a living and natural product. There is a wide variety of honey flavors. The content of certain nectar plants makes the honey either milder or, conversely, more robust. If you have obtained honey with a specific taste and characteristics from a local beekeeper, it is likely that you will not find similar honey elsewhere. Furthermore, the taste and properties of honey vary from year to year and depend on the harvest period.

The honey we sell originates from beekeepers across Estonia – from Lääne-Virumaa, Ida-Virumaa, Pärnumaa, Võrumaa, Tartumaa, and other regions. Some products (Family Honey) originate from outside Estonia, within the European Union, to offer a more affordable alternative.

The honey we market is checked for key quality indicators – honey moisture, HMF, diastase activity, free acids, invertase.

If a batch does not meet quality requirements, it is not sold.

To ascertain the origin of honey, a pollen analysis is conducted in cases of doubt, which determines the geographical origin of the honey. If the pollen analysis reveals pollen from plants not found or grown in Estonia, there is reason to believe that the honey is not of local origin, and it will not be sold.

The amount of pollen contained in honey is not proportional to the composition of the honey in the jar. This means that if, for example, a pollen analysis shows 10% clover pollen, it does not automatically imply that the honey contains 10% clover honey.

In addition to the procedures we conduct and analyses ordered from laboratories, our honey handling is also annually inspected by the Veterinary and Food Board.
